In the private 27,000ha Kulala Wilderness Reserve, just next door to Namibia’s Sand Sea, you’ll find Little Kulala – the gateway to Sossusvlei and (quite literally) a desert paradise. With private access to the neighbouring Namib-Naukluft Park and many ways of exploring the area (including by hot air balloon), Little Kulala is the perfect spot from which to tame the Namib Desert – or at least try to.
Little Kulala overlooks a nearby waterhole which enjoys frequent visits from many species of desert-adapted wildlife. These include wild ostriches, gemsbok, springbok, bat-eared fox, jackal, and even the elusive spotted hyena. Guided quad biking, 4x4 game drives and hot air balloon rides are all great ways to see everything the Namib Desert has to offer. For the daredevils, night walks with powerful UV lights reveal scorpions and white lady spiders that come out to play once the sun goes down.
Staying in one of the 11 Thatched Suites is an absolute pleasure. Each features sophisticated climate control, a private plunge pool, indoor and outdoor showers and a rooftop bed that provides for some of the most romantic stargazing around.
