Top Zambia Safari Tour Ideas

Luxury African safari tours in Zambia are still one of our continent's best-kept secrets. Not as well-known as its neighbour Zimbabwe, Zambia is a must for the traveller who wants to go a bit more off the beaten track.

Known as the home of the walking safari and sharing access to Victoria Falls with Zimbabwe, we love visiting Zambia for immersive safari experiences. And whilst 75% of the Falls is in Zimbabwe, Zambia lays claim to Devil's Pool, a natural "infinity pool" perched on the edge of Victoria Falls, which is bound to thrill even the most hardened adrenaline junkie (and make for magnificent photo ops).

How does it work? Well, your dedicated Travel Expert will get to know you first, make suggestions, and then they'll wave their magic wands to ensure every detail is planned while at the same time giving you the freedom to change your mind and do as little or as much as you'd like in Zambia.

Frequently Asked Questions About Zambia Safari Tours

If this is your first time planning an African safari in Zambia, we're sure you must have many questions! Here are some of the most common questions our Travel Experts get.

What is The Ideal Duration for a Zambia Tour?

We recommend you stay at least a week in Zambia to explore the country fully. However, our average itinerary is usually 11-12 days.

When is The Best Time to Travel to Zambia?

The best time to visit Zambia depends on what you want to do and see. It has a rainy and dry season, which usually guides guests to choose when to visit.

The best time for a safari in Zambia is during the dry season, which is from September to October. This is because there are limited water holes, so wildlife gathers for the best game viewing. If you mainly want to see Victoria Falls, it's at its fullest between April and May. However, swimming in Devil's Pool on the edge of the Falls is a seasonal activity you can only enjoy during the dry season when the water levels are lower.

November to March is the rainy season, which turns the safari destinations into lush green landscapes. Birding is spectacular during this time, and newborn animals are everywhere.

What is There to Do in Zambia?

Here are just some of our favourite things to do when visiting Zambia.

  • Walking safaris: Zambia is well-known for its excellent safaris on foot
  • Game drives: Multiple national parks with excellent game viewing
  • Swimming in Devil’s Pool: Brave guests can swim in nature’s very own infinity pool on the edge of Victoria Falls
  • Zambezi River safaris: Drift along the Zambezi to admire the wildlife drinking along the banks and see hippos and crocodiles
  • Helicopter tours over Victoria Falls: See the Falls from a bird’s-eye view
  • See the bat migration in Kasanka National Park:  From about October to December every year, you can see over 10 million fruit bats darken the sky

What Are the Best Safari Destinations in Zambia?

  • South Luangwa National Park: The country's most popular game reserve
  • Victoria Falls: Admire it from Zambia’s side or take a day trip to the Victoria Falls National Park, located on Zimbabwe's side
  • Lower Zambezi National Park: The largest untouched and untamed
  • Kafue National Park: Biggest safari destination
  • Livingstone: A town in southwestern Zambia named after explorer David Livingstone
  • Kasanka National Park: Home of the annual bat migration

How Much Does a Zambia Safari Cost?

Your Zambia safari cost will depend on various factors, including but not limited to seasonality, availability, duration of your stay, where you choose to stay and what you want to do. However, as a general guideline, you can expect to pay anything from $500 to $3,000 per person per day.

What Destinations Should I Add to my Zambia Tour?

Zambia is located in Southern Africa and combines well with destinations like Zimbabwe, Botswana, South Africa, Mozambique, Namibia and East African destinations like Tanzania and Kenya.

You can now connect from Zambia to Malawi with a direct flight, which makes combining your Zambia safari with a beach holiday easier than ever. There are some great lodges on Lake Malawi we can recommend.

However, your wish is our command! We can recommend the best possible destinations to add to your itinerary.

Who Will Enjoy a Zambia Safari?

Anyone who appreciates Mother Nature in its purest form will love a Zambia safari. We also see lots of couples visiting Zambia for a more off-the-beaten-track romantic getaway.
