The Desert Homestead lies approximately 30km south-east of Sesriem and is an ideal base from which to explore the dunes at Sossusvlei, make the short trip to the Sesriem Canyon, or explore the Namib-Naukluft National Park. In a grassy valley sheltered by mountains, your everyday vista encompasses distant dunes in the Namibian desert.
Hot air balloon your way across the plains or enjoy guided Sossusvlei excursions. The Desert Homestead is particularly well known for its abundant horse trails: join the trail tours that depart twice daily or the overnight tour to truly connect with the great outdoors. Camping in the desert by firelight with a sunrise or sunset outride is an unforgettable experience.
The 20 rustic, thatched houses are well-spaced from one another and the main lodge, and charming in their simplicity with cool linens and warm wood. Each has its own verandah with views to distant mountains. The “Reiterhaus" (family house) is the suite of the Desert Homestead Lodge. The suite is built, decorated and furnished in the “Reiterhaus” style. It has a bathroom and a separate bedroom, which is perfect for families and small groups of up to four members. The main lodge’s open plan living areas offer al fresco dining. Take a refreshing dip in the pool or admire a sunrise or sunset from the verandah. Other facilities include a cosy lounge, Internet access, curio shop and a very friendly bar.
