History & wildlife at MalaMala Camp in South Africa

Located adjacent to the Sand River, MalaMala Camp is one of the oldest private game reserves in South Africa. The unfenced camp is designed to make the most of the surrounding bush — enjoy beautiful views from the comfort of your secluded suite and look out for visiting antelope, elephants, and birds.

Home to the 'MalaMala Seven' — rhino, elephant, buffalo, leopard, lion, cheetah, and wild dog, it's a wildlife haven. Observe these amazing animals on exclusive safaris led by expertly trained guides. MalaMala was one of the first private camps to move to photographic safaris from hunting safaris — snap the perfect photo by making use of the reserve’s photographic vehicle. Spend free time lounging at the wooden safari deck for prime viewing of wildlife gathered at Sand River's edge or shop at the onsite boutique.

Choose between a Single Room, Luxury Room or Luxury Suite that are hidden among the bush and greenery of the camp. All rooms have 'his' and 'hers' bathrooms, minibars, tea/coffee facilities, safes and climate control. Children of all ages are welcome and Family Rooms are available on request.
