Most visitors to Zambia will either arrive in Lusaka or Livingstone. Being the capital, Lusaka is served by a number of international airlines, with many travellers flying here directly from Johannesburg (South Africa), Nairobi (Kenya) or Dar es Salaam (Tanzania). South African Airways, Air Namibia, Air Zimbabwe, Air Malawi, Kenya Airways and Ethiopian Airlines all fly directly to Lusaka. The airport is about 30km from the city centre and we can organise your transfers.
Flights from America can be arranged with either British Airways or South African Airways, via London or Johannesburg respectively. From the UK, there are four flights a week direct from Gatwick Airport to Lusaka and from Australia, Qantas flies to Harare in Zimbabwe and Johannesburg in South Africa, with connecting flights available to Lusaka. European airlines such as KLM, Air France and Lufthansa also fly to Lusaka, via either Harare or Johannesburg.
Daily flights operate between Johannesburg Airport and Livingstone Airport. The flight is about 90 minutes in duration and Livingstone Airport is about 20 minutes drive from the Falls Resort.
Getting around the country
From Livingstone and Lusaka most travellers opt for an internal flight with Aero Zambia if they wish to reach more remote regions such as South Luangwa National Park. There are also a number of other charter companies and with about 130 airports and landing strips in the country, you can catch a charter flight almost anywhere. It is definitely the quickest and easiest way to get around the country though not necessarily the cheapest.
The roads are reasonably well-maintained, though the distances involved are often great and 4-wheel drive vehicles are essential in the more remote areas. Furthermore, the roads can become impassable during the rainy season from November to March. But we can organise a road transfer or help you hire a vehicle if you please.
Visa Requirements
US Nationals do not need to arrange a visa prior to arrival. Visas for all US Nationals are US$50 single and US$80 double entry and can be paid for on arrival.
If you are a British Citizen you will also require a visa to enter Zambia.
It is best to obtain your visa before traveling in order to avoid potential problems and pitfalls. Visas can be obtained from the Zambian High Commission in London, and single entry Visas are also available at all ports of entry.
The good news is that the visa fees have recently been reduced for British nationals to US$50 for a single entry visa and from to US$80 for a multi-entry visa. The multi-entry visa is not available at the ports of entry and has to be applied for beforehand.
KAZA Univisa
The KAZA Univisa covers entry into both Zambia and Zimbabwe. This visa is the same price and the perfect choice for those going on safari in both countries, or wanting to visit both sides of Victoria Falls. Tourists save time and money because they only have to obtain one visa to visit both countries. It costs US$50 and lasts up to 30 days as long as you remain within Zambia and Zimbabwe. It also covers those who visit Botswana for day trips for the Kazungula borders.
