Well away from Etosha National Park’s public self-drive routes and facing the park’s most defining attraction – the Etosha Pan – Onkoshi Camp offers an exclusive and all-encompassing safari experience. The pan, taking up almost a quarter of the 22,000km² park, and its surrounds are home to four of the Big 5, missing only the Buffalo, and many others.
Thanks to its enviable location, guests are sure to avoid the majority of tourists that make their way in and out of the park. The pan is a popular salt lick for wildlife in the dry season, while the rainy season sees it turn into a veritable oasis as many parts of it become covered in films of water that in turn attract scores of flamingos.
Run predominantly on solar power, Onkoshi strives to be a low impact camp. Its 14 Onkoshi Chalets and one Honeymoon Chalet are raised wooden structures that boast smooth, clear, and distinctly African lines – and face the indomitable pan. Each chalet has en-suite bathrooms (featuring indoor/outdoor showers), and tea/coffee-making facilities. On-site facilities include a restaurant, bar, swimming pool and curio shop.
