Home to the life-giving Komati River, Nkomazi Game Reserve’s namesake means ‘place of water’. This ecologically diverse wildlife haven, home to the Big 5 among others, lies south-east of the Kruger. It is home to expansive valleys, rolling grassland, and has long been considered a place of immense geological importance housing some of the oldest rock formations on the planet – many decorated with San rock art.
Nkomazi’s diverse landscape supports game species from both the Lowveld and the highveld within its 15,000ha boundaries. Cast a line into the Komati River and try your hand at fly-fishing, or take a guided nature walk through parts of the reserve. Mountain bikers will be eager to explore Nkomazi’s trails, while game drives will be the highlight of the day and star-gazing will be the highlight of the night.
The five-star Komati Tented Lodge overlooks the Komati River, blends seamlessly into its surroundings, and exudes an ‘Out of Africa’ feel. The Noble and Royal Tents boast private plunge pools and viewing decks. The main lodge boasts a dining tent, lounge, deck, outdoor dining area, Relaxation Retreat, and gift boutique.
