Naries Namakwa Retreat is a secluded refuge sandwiched between Springbok and Kleinzee, on the edge of the Spektakelberg. Apart from the spectacular scenery enveloping the retreat, it is an ideal base from which to explore the greater Namaqualand Region – from the arid Richtersveld in the north to the rusted carcasses of shipwrecks in the west. Come wildflower season, when a tapestry of colour covers the landscape, Naries is right in the middle of all the action.
Explore Richtersveld’s temperamental terrain – trek across the flat coastal plains, hike the craggy mountains, or set off on a river excursion along the luscious Orange River. Namaqua National Park is an arid biodiversity hotspot, encompassing a staggering assortment of flower species, some found nowhere else in the world. Namaqualand’s burst of wildflowers turns the desert into a kaleidoscope of colour not to be missed.
The retreat consists of three romantic domed Namakwa Mountain Suites, five classical Manor House Rooms and two self-catering Cape country-style cottages ideal for families – all complete with private bathroom. Breakfast and dinner is served at the Manor House’s dining room.
