The stone-and-thatch chalets of Mapula Lodge, perched on raised platforms, are positioned on a tree island on the edge of a seasonal floodplain and overlook a permanent lagoon. Found within the Mapula Reserve private concession in the northern reaches of the Okavango Delta, the lodge invites guests to enjoy varied game viewing and a range of safari activities.
Game drives and night drives provide an excellent vantage from which to see varied plains game, mighty herbivores such as elephant and slinking predators including lion, leopard, wild dog and cheetah. Mokoro trails and boating, on the other hand, take you into the watery world of the Delta where, in addition to hippos and crocodiles, you may find wading elephants, sitatunga, lechwe and an array of the 450 species found here. Specialised birding and photographic safaris are available.
Nine canvas-and-thatch bedroom en-suite tents make up the accommodation of this intimate camp and include romantic touches such as open air showers, traditional zinc bathtubs, large mesh windows and private patios showcasing the lagoon. The open-plan main lodge includes a lounge, small library, curios shop, a large deck and a pool.
