Secreted away in a wooded valley within the 7,500ha Lalibela Game Reserve, Lalibela Tree Tops Lodge offers magical tented accommodation set upon raised, thatched platforms surrounded by a leafy canopy. With four other ecosystems and diverse wildlife—including the Big 5, cheetah, hyena, giraffe, hippo and a variety of antelope and smaller species—there is much to tempt you from your treehouse.
Just an hour’s drive from Port Elizabeth and under four hours from Garden Route towns such as Knysna and Plettenberg Bay, this reserve is easily included in a self-drive in this malaria-free region. Taking pride in the Big 5 safari they offer, the sightings on the twice daily game drives are high quality and enhanced by knowledgeable guides. Birders meanwhile will thrill in the park in general and particularly in their camp among trees frequented by the vivid Knysna Loerie.
The five en-suite Tents make this most of this location with large windows and private verandahs taking in the view while the open air dining deck looks out over a waterhole regularly sought by elephant and resident nyalas.
