Just outside the small town of Aus in the Gondwana Sperrgebiet Rand Park of Namibia lies Klein Aus Vista Eagle’s Nest Chalets, the perfect perch from which to take in all that this area has to offer. The arid landscape in this private nature reserve is dotted with rocky mountains accompanied by the arresting presence of wild horses, an exciting alternative to the oceanfront holiday.
Arrive in time for a drive to the waterhole where the wild horses quench their thirst at sunset. You can embark on one of five hiking trails ranging from two to five hours in length or discover why this destination is popular among mountain bike enthusiasts. Enjoy a lazy lunch at the Desert Horse Inn, cook in your own kitchen or grab a takeaway breakfast or picnic before launching yourself into the great unknown – all are available.
Klein Aus Vista boasts various accommodation options in the reserve. Only 7km from the main lodge, Eagle’s Nest Chalets are the self-catering option, built into rounded granite boulders and set against the backdrop of a granite-gneiss mountain. Accommodation is simple, neat and comfortable – a cosy reprieve from the stark wilderness.
