Karongwe Private Nature Reserve is tucked away in South Africa’s prized Lowveld region in the Limpopo Province – around an hour’s drive from Kruger National Park. Within it, situated on the banks of the Makhutsi River, Karongwe River Lodge and its friendly staff will show you what makes the park special.
The reserve’s 9,000ha expanse is walked by the Big 5 and a host of other animals while over 365 different bird species can be glimpsed flitting about the lush bush and huge variety of trees. The impressively knowledgeable guides make game drives a thoroughly enriching experience and may allow the opportunity to view cheetah on foot. At the lodge, a private waterhole enjoyed by its 11 Suites is home to hippos and crocodiles and may be visited by bathing elephants while nyala and warthog frequent the camp area.
The accommodation collection, made up of luxury, family and executive suites, is truly spacious and includes features like air-conditioning, a minibar, tea/coffee-making facilities, private viewing decks and ethereal yet functional mosquito nets. Equally delightful is the dining, with Pan-African cuisine served alternately in the beautiful dining room or al fresco around a fire in the boma.
