Home to rock paintings and ruins, magnificent elephant herds, and what many agree to be one of the largest painted wild dog populations on the continent, Hwange National Park offers a rewarding safari experience for the novice and the experienced traveller. Just outside its borders, Hwange Safari Lodge promises a tranquil and comfortable base from which to explore the park – only an hour from Victoria Falls.
With seasonal wetlands morphing into grassland and sturdy woodlands dominated by Zambezi teak, Hwange boasts over 400 different bird species and over 100 different mammal species. Among these, visitors should keep an eye out for the Big 5, wild dog, brown hyena and gemsbok.
Each of Hwange Safari Lodge’s 100 tastefully decorated rooms and suites boast en-suite bathrooms, air-conditioning, fans, heating, mosquito nets, tea/coffee-making facilities, a lounge area, telephone, hair dryer and writing desk. Enjoy sundowners at the Tusker Cocktail Bar or the Waterhole Bar, and delicious meals at Dingani Restaurant, after exciting days spent on morning and evening game drives and visits to the nearby painted dog sanctuary and pottery village.
