Visit Damara Mopane Lodge in north-western Namibia and be transported to an old African kingdom of bright colours and traditional themes. This innovative and inspiring lodge provides an ideal base from which to explore the rich sandstone treasures of Damaraland.
Damara Mopane Lodge is located near Khorixas, en route to the celebrated Twyfelfontein rock engravings. It is also in close proximity to the Petrified Forest and the Vingerklip rock formation. The Damaraland region is home to the majestic desert-adapted elephant, which can be spotted in dry riverbeds from the hillside viewing deck of the lodge. This spot is also perfect for welcoming the night sky with a sundowner, and appreciating the unique configuration of the lodge.
The lodge of 60 wattle and daub chalets is designed in a semi-circle of interlinking pathways that lead to a splendid swimming pool. Each chalet has its own mini garden blooming with vegetables and radiant yellow sunflowers. Heart-shaped mopane leaves evoke the warm spirit of Damaraland and its people – expect extended hands and jovial greetings. As sunset, head to the restaurant for a meal of home-grown, freshly picked ingredients.
