Since it's only 45km from the main gate to Namib Naukluft Park, Agama River Camp is an ideal stopover for visitors on self-drives into the fiery dunes of Sossusvlei. The camp’s namesake is derived from the colourful, long-tailed lizard that roams the open savannahs of this African region.
Positioned on a dry riverbed, close to the towns of Solitaire and Sesriem, the captivating Naukluft Mountains loom to the east of the camp. Treat yourself to a trek through the mountains and get lost in the magnificent quietude of the rolling red dunes of Sossusvlei. The camp has a viewing deck where guests will find sundowners that are chilled and sunsets that are breathtaking.
Despite its remote location, the camp offers many homey comforts and an unexpected amount of relaxation facilities. The chalets are situated on the upper banks of a river course with large bathrooms and modern conveniences, and the campsites are dotted along the lower banks under large acacia trees. The friendly restaurant and bar serves great food and drink, and a swimming pool is perfect for lessening the heat of the Namibian sun.
