Time + Tide Mchenja Camp, meaning “ebony”, describes a magnificent camp beneath ancient ebony trees on the banks of Zambia’s Luangwa River in the South Luangwa National Park. This intimate wildlife experience tells age-old tales of natural harmony, effortless luxury, and African enchantment.
Tranquil in its position on a sweeping river bend, Mchenja Camp in the Luangwa Valley is one of the best places in Africa to see elephant, buffalo, hippo, and crocodile. There’s no need to leave your luxurious tent to spot wildlife, yet since you’ve found yourself in Africa’s prime walking safari location, it’s worth a trip into the bush with a guide to get close to leopard, and the endemic Thornicroft’s giraffe and Cookson’s wildebeest. Day or night drives in an open game-viewing vehicle are also available.
The elegant camp hosts only five uniquely-designed tented suites—the ideal getaway for honeymooners. Each tent has its own private en suite open-air bathroom plus Victorian-style baths with river view. A comfort in the hotter months is the camp’s plunge pool in the main lounge with neighbouring bar and library. Flavoursome meals are often served on the river bank under a twinkling sky.
